Martin Boyce

In January the sculpture and installation works of Scottish artist Martin Boyce will be featured in the B.C. Binning Gallery. Boyce’s evocative practice interrupts and corrupts ideals about the purity and utopianism of modernism and modernist design. He has re-deployed signature modernist furniture pieces in anti-heroic or idiosyncratic postures. For the Contemporary Art Gallery, Boyce will create a new installation, which is being developed in conjunction with Glasgow’s Tramway Gallery, where Boyce’s work is featured this fall.

In a darkened gallery space, a large sculpture made of white tube light bulbs is hanging from the gallery ceiling. A black trash can, or an umbrella bucket, is placed behind this large sculpture.

Our Love is Like the Earth, the Sun, the Trees and the Birth

Published in 2003 by the Contemporary Art Gallery and Tramway, Glasgow (Scotland), this publication includes an interview between the artist and Vancouver writer Douglas Coupland, the essay Dead Modern by Douglas Coupland and the essay Sneaky Feelings by Raymond Macdonald.

The publication accompanied the two exhibitions, Our Love is like the Earth, the Sun, the Trees and the Birth, at the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, January 17 – March 2, 2003, and Our Love is like the Flowers, the Rain, the Sea and the Hours at Tramway, Glasgow, Scotland, November 22, 2002 – January 19, 2003.
