Laurie Kang

Guts (Lumen), 2019/2020

Laurie Kang Guts (Lumen), 2019/2020 inkjet print, pigmented silicone 15 x 12 inches Edition of 10 + 2 APs; signed 38 × 30.5 cm $600 framed

Laurie Kang’s practice is rooted in an enduring concern with the body and the forces that shape it — political, affective and otherwise. In recent years, she has become known for her use of continuously sensitive materials, often exhibiting works that are literally and metaphorically unstable and in flux. In Guts (Lumen), Kang reproduces one of her signature photogram works, in which she develops primordial images by layering objects on unfixed photo paper in her studio and exposing it to light. For this edition, she has subsequently skinned the print with silicone forms, shapes at once fleshly and inert.
