Telling Moments

25th Anniversary exhibition

555 Hamilton St

A scanned exhibition invitation. It has a white background with yellow text that contains information about the exhibition and gallery. The exhibition title is written in bold black text.

The Contemporary Art Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition celebrating its twenty five years as one of Vancouver's most prominent visual arts organizations. Initially formed as a government sponsored make-work project for artists in 1971, the Contemporary Art Gallery has over the years also been known as the Odyssey Gallery, the Greater Vancouver Artist's Gallery and the Artist's Gallery before assuming its present name in 1984. The Contemporary Art Gallery now presents a varied and provocative program featuring artists of regional, national and international origin and manages the City of Vancouver's art collection of 3,000 works that are circulated in civic buildings.

Telling Moments will be drawn from the Gallery's archives and will incorporate photographs, drawings, artwork, project proposals, letters, invitations, and various other eclectic material. It will illustrate the unusual story of this Gallery and the unique place it holds in the history of Vancouver. We will also feature a bulletin board of faxes and e-mail transmissions presenting recollections and opinions from the many artists and individuals who have been directly involved with the Contemporary Art Gallery over the years and from those who have visited at various points in its history.
