Robert Kleyn
555 Hamilton St
Vancouver artist Robert Kleyn will exhibit new sculptures at the Contemporary Art Gallery from October 12 – November 10. Kleyn left Vancouver in 1975 for Rome, later spending several years in New York. He returned to Vancouver in 1987. In addition to his work as an artist, Kleyn is actively involved in architecture and writing. The work he will be showing at CAG contains references to all three areas.
The objects included in the 12 Sculptures evolve from forms commonly found in the built world, much like the minimalism of the 1960s. They are modeled from commonly available materials. Kleyn’s use of sensuous colour and texture distances these works from their formalist predecessors.
