Gerry Gilbert

HANDS: A Catalogue of Forty Years of Photography

555 Hamilton St

Two black & white photographs side by side. One depicts a hand holding a piece of paper on which a slug is perched and the other depicts a hand with a small magnifying glass over a blurry background.

HANDS: A Catalogue of Forty Years of Photography is Gerry Gilbert's first solo exhibition in eight years. Gilbert is a downtown Vancouver-based poet, artist and editor. The 200 images in this exhibition are a core sample surveying the photographic archive Gilbert has accumulated since the 1940s.

Most of the photographs in the show are 8 by 10 inches, black and white, printed for the exhibition by En Burk. The set of ten 11 by 14 inch black and white images were printed by Taki Bluesinger in 1978. The artist extends his thanks to En Burk and Taki Bluesinger as well as to the firms that printed the colour images — Superior Repro for the colour copier prints from slides and Inter-Pro Photo, for the colour negative prints.
