Christian Eckart

The Power Chord Cycle

555 Hamilton St

In the corner of a gallery, several rectangular metal panels hang on the wall. They have small rectangular pieces missing and protruding from their corners. Their surfaces are scuffed and marked.

Christian Eckart is a Canadian artist currently living in New York City. After graduating from the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Eckart completed a graduate degree at Hunter college in New York.

The Power Chord Cycle was produced from 1988 and first shown at the Illingworth Kerr Gallery at the Alberta College of Art in October, 1990. There are twenty-four panels in the complete work. Twelve were shown in Calgary and eight are here in Vancouver. The tour of this work in Canada was made possible by a generous loan from Galerie Thadaeus Ropac in Paris and Salzburg.

The Contemporary Art Gallery is grateful to the Illingworth Kerr Gallery at the Alberta College of Art for making this exhibition available to our audience.
