Join us for a midsummer game night with semillites hernández velasco, as he launches Plants and Pleasure, a board game he designed and produced through his WEDGE Residency last year. Attendees will be invited to play Plants and Pleasure together in groups of 2 to 4 at the covered picnic tables in Trout Lake Park in East Van, with plenty of snacks and drinks on offer. Please note that this will be an alcohol-free event.

Directions

This event will be held at the covered picnic area in the southeast portion of John Hendry (Trout Lake) Park. This spot is just east of Trout Lake Beach and can be easily accessed by the 17th or 18th Avenue entrances on the east side of the park. A map can be seen here.

Biography

semillites hernández velasco (he/him) is a trans and brown visual artist and printmaker based in “vancouver” on the unceded territory of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam Nations. semillites was born in mexico city in 1995; at the age of nineteen he immigrated north. semillites comes from a family of campesinos (peasants) in central méxico and he tries to put his ancestors’ teachings in his artworks. semillites’ artwork aims to be imperfect, brown, trans, sincere, with a deep love for colors and collective work. semillites’ mediums range from drawing to textile art, music and animated gifs. his artworks are love letters to himself, his ancestors and every person, flower and grasshopper that has ever crossed his path.
